SKIN TYPE - UNIQUE JUST LIKE YOU
Just like blood groups or fingerprints, Skin Types are hereditary and unique to an individual. Each skin type has its own characteristics, advantages/disadvantages and recommends curated care/pamper. Although skin type is determined mainly by genetics, it can be altered by various other factors both external and internal. It can even change with age, time and seasons too!!
It is important to know one’s skin type as they can predict
Impending skin conditions,
Internal health illnesses,
Response to injury or trauma or procedure,
Propensity to develop pigmentation or scarring,
How molecule/ingredient will react,
What skin care regimen works effectively.
Tendency to develop allergic reactions
As you know there are 4 main and common skin types based on dryness and oil (sebum) content on the face.
They are
Normal Skin - Dryness and Oiliness are in balance
Dry Skin - Dryness is prominent.
Oily Skin - Oiliness is prominent
Combination Skin - T zone ( forehead & nose ) are oily and V zone ( cheeks & chin ) are dry.
There are few more skin types which are less common but difficult to treat. They are
1. Sensitive Skin : predisposed to develop allergic reactions and redness quickly.
2. Pigmented Skin : have inclination to develop either hyper (black) / hypo (white) pigmentation risk.
3. Photodamaged Skin : usually thickened, have wrinkles and an aged look.
How to identify one’s skin type ?
Normal Skin - it is usually balanced, has smooth texture, no blemishes or pores. Feels normal after face wash.
Dry Skin - rough texture, uneven tone, feels dry after face wash usually. Itching is common.
Oily skin - greasy appearance, breakouts and open pores are common. Oil accumulates easily, even after face wash.
Combination Skin - has both features of dry skin and oily skin.
Sensitive Skin - usually dry in nature and allergic reactions occur very quickly.
Thus, it is important to know skin type and then initiate skin care routine accordingly..
Irrespective of skin type, two things are important for healthy and glowing skin
Stick to skin care routine that suits best for your skin type
Don't overdo it !
